ZORICA PURLIJA

Born in Montenegro 1964,emigrated to Australia with family in 1973, settling in Newcastle, NSW.

Began Bachelor of Architecture in Newcastle in 1983-1985.

1989 Associate Diploma in Visual Arts at the Nepean College of Advanced Education with Major in Design and Photography, teachers Robyn Stacey and Dennis Del Favero.

1987-1991 Worked in various Design Agencies, including freelance illustration and photography.

1991 Travelled through Europe, exploring life and absorbing Art, living and working in London for 18 months.

1992 Returned to Australia settling in Sydney.

1993 Gave birth to first child and devoted life to full time mothering.

1993 Introduction to Film and Video Techniques: University of Sydney..

1999- PRESENT began pursuing career as an Artist using Photography as medium.

2003: Short Course in Photography: 2 with Ella Dreyfus, National Art School, Sydney

2007 Represented by Sara Roney Gallery.

2008 Employed as freelance photographer with Sunday Life Magazine, Fairfax.

 

2012 Began a Masters of Art at COFA Paddington.
2016 Awarded Student Community and Development Grant for Exhibition The Mother ARC and UNSW Kensington.
2017 Awarded Early Curator Award ARC and UNSW School of art and Design.

I've been photographing Jina for over 7 years,I know her intimately, she has been generous in allowing me a glimpse into her life.
As the 2017 recipient of the ECCA, Zorica Purlija will work with Kudos Gallery to develop a new exhibition titled Realising Mother, which will run from 1 – 18 November, with a launch celebration occurring Tuesday 31 October 5 – 7pm, 2017.
